Colombia.......Here I Come.....(Part 7)

Image
At last we are on our final approach to London Stansted Airport. This airport is situated 30 miles to the North East of central London near border to Hertfordshire. For the last 45 minutes our plane has been gradually decreasing her altitude and speed. This airport is not as busy as Heathrow and Gatwick. At Heathrow, most of the time arriving plane has to join the Holding stacks or pattern to accommodate the busy arrivals of planes from all over the world (about 650 aircraft's in a day). Takes-off (departure) another 650 aircraft, which makes a combine arrival and departure of 1300 aircraft's a day using only two runaways ! I guess it must be pretty stress full for the air traffic controllers...... Stacking Process whereby planes waits for their turn prior landing (Plan View) After earlier holding pattern, planes are directed to land when their turn is up (Side View) The sound of the landing gear locked-on seems rather loud, signalling we are not far from the ru...

Colombia......Here I come......(Part 6)

True enough, I was sleeping like a baby after the meal. The flight was smooth all the way without the usual shudder, bumpiness and turbulence. The alarm that I set, came on just about 3 hours prior arrival. I always make it a habit of going to the "loo" about this time when almost everyone is still asleep. If you does it after the meal.....gosh....the queue can sometimes be unbearable. You would have notice, sometimes, passengers going to the loo just when the cabin crew were out with the trolley trying to serve others. What an inconvenience it might caused ! After refreshing myself, I was looking forward for my dinner ! When it came it was in a form of a "Chicken Nasi beryani". A North Indian style sweetened fried chicken with spicy flavour rice. It comes with condiments - chutney, sour plum and raisins. Very appetising especially the spicy aroma. I don't know about you guys who are so used to steak and pies. I also do not know what to expect once I am in Sou...

Colombia........Here I come......(Part 5)

Four hours into the flight to London, I was awaken by the air hostess who is serving the hot meals. You know AirAsia being a low-cost airline, meals need to be pre-booked. I did just that, otherwise, I would be starving (they don't allow you to carry outside food on the aircraft). Either way, you can't win - no choice. If you buy on-line it's cheaper versus buying on the spot, which is a bit dearer......but the more worrying thing is, it might run out of stock. You would be "fasting" for the next 14 hours.......It is the same with baggage fees. It's better to buy extra baggage allowance online rather than get caught with excess baggage fees as it will costs you a "bomb!". So I have another meal to go before reaching London. That meal I just had, was my lunch.....based on our current approx. location (keeping time zone of GMT+5.5) over India. So today, I had two luncheons (one at the business lounge prior departure plus one a short while a...
